Running the C5 Client

The C5 Client can be used as a streamlined, simplified user-interface for Serendipity Blackmagic and Megarip, offering users an alternative to the standard Serendipity Client. It is installed as part of the Blackmagic or Megarip product package installation.

The C5 Client, by design, has a fixed interface and a limited list of available actions and functions.

Calibrated media setups for use with C5 come in the form of pre-configured media packs (self-contained database items for use with the C5 interface). Media Packs are created by and exported from the standard Serendipity Client, or they can be installed via the Online Media Catalogue option. They cannot be created from within C5 itself.

Starting the C5 Client

There are two (2) methods available in order to run the software.

  1. C5 Client Quick Start; or
  2. Server & C5 Client Start

Method 1: C5 Client Quick Start

This method starts the C5 Client and leaves the Blackmagic or Megarip Server running in the background. The Server application cannot be accessed directly using this startup method.

Dongle Users

  1. Insert a valid dongle (Blackmagic or Megarip) into an available USB port.
  2. Launch the C5 Client by double-clicking the file in the installation directory, or from the shortcut desktop/dock icon. This method will automatically start the Server application in the background. A valid dongle must be present for this method, otherwise a licensing error message will appear.

Subscription Users

  1. A valid subscription must have been activated previously for Blackmagic or Megarip. If this has been done, the Server does not need to be running separately.
  2. Launch the C5 Client by double-clicking the file in the installation directory, or from the shortcut desktop/dock icon. This method will automatically start the Server application in the background. If a valid, activated subscription cannot be found, the C5 Client will not start.

Important Note: Serendipity Subscriptions are currently being piloted in Australia. Once the pilot period is over they will be rolled out to other countries.

Method 2 – Server & C5 Client Start

This method starts the Blackmagic or Megarip Server application first, and then the C5 Client is run separately.

Dongle Users

  1. Insert a valid dongle (Blackmagic or Megarip) into an available USB port.
  2. Launch the Server by double-clicking the Server file in the installation directory or the shortcut desktop/dock icon.
  3. Once the Server has completed initialisation, launch the C5 Client by double-clicking the application.

Subscription Users

  1. Launch the Server by double-clicking the Server file in the installation directory or the shortcut desktop/dock icon.
  2. Activate a subscription if this has not already been done. The Server will start if it can locate a valid, active subscription.
  3. Once the Server has completed initialisation, launch the C5 Client by double-clicking the application.

Important Note: Serendipity Subscriptions are currently being piloted in Australia. Once the pilot period is over they will be rolled out to other countries.
