Borderless Printing and Centering on Epson Printers

To use the Borderless printing option for Epson printers with Blackmagic/Megarip the configure the following parameters…

NOTE – Borderless printing on all sides is possible when using roll paper, and on the left and right only when using cut sheet paper.

MEDIA

Configure these settings in the Media (Workbench item) to be used for borderless printing:-

Output Settings

Media Width – set to the precise width of the paper + 6mm, e.g. 432mm(24″) + 6mm = 438mm. This 6mm increase compensates for the hardware margins (3mm left and right) of the printer and is required for the ‘Retain Size’ borderless mode used by Blackmagic/Megarip.

Printer Margins

Enter ‘3mm’ in the Left/Right/Top/Bottom fields. These are the hardware margins (maximum printable area) of most current Epson printers. These margins are not applied to printed jobs, but are used for accurate centring (see below).

Custom Settings

Cutter Control (optional) – set to ‘Auto Cutting On’ if you want the printer to trim the top and bottom of the print when using roll paper. This produces a print borderless on all sides.

Borderless Printing – ‘On’

Bottom Margin – ‘Normal (3mm)’

Save the Media.

PAGESETUP

Configure these settings in the Pagesetup (Workbench item) to be used for borderless printing:-

Disable Logo and any Effects that alter the dimensions of an image, such as slugline, registration marks, cut marks, etc.

Media Effects – Fitting

Method – set to ‘Best Fit Width’. This will up- or down-scale the image to fit the precise width of the paper, a requirement for borderless printing. Width does not need to be entered, if set to ‘0mm’ the Pagesetup uses the ‘Media Width’ setting from the Media.

Media Effects – Centring

Horizontal – tick ‘ON’.  Width does not need to be entered, if set to ‘0mm’ jobs will centre across the ‘Media Width’ setting from the Media (taking Printer Margins into account).

Vertical (optional) – this setting can be turned on for centring purposes when printing to cut sheet paper. However, the top and bottom of the image will still need to be manually trimmed. Check to see if the Printer Margins need to be changed from 3mm on all sides when using cut sheet paper.

OUTPUT

It is advisable to disable any Nesting when printing in Borderless Mode.
