EIZO Monitors – installation and setup

Serendipity Blackmagic / Megarip / Veripress 9.1+  continues EIZO monitor support for colour-managed on-screen Softproofing.

The following is a guide to installing and setting up EIZO ColorEdge displays with built-in spectrophotometers for use with your Serendipity product.

Connect the Monitor

  • Connect the monitor to your Serendipity Server or stand-alone Serendipity Client machine via HDMI or Display Port cable.
  • Next, connect the monitor USB cable to the machine.
  • Power up the monitor, ensuring you can see your operating system desktop.
  • Download and install the latest version of the EIZO ColorNavigator software for Windows or macOS. This will install the necessary EIZO operating system drivers onto your system.

Run the EIZO ColorNavigator software

  • Start ColorNavigator, ensuring it connects to your display.
  • Run a display calibration using ColorNavigator, this will test the built-in sensor / spectrophotometer is functioning correctly.

Close ColorNavigator and quit the ColorNavigator Agent

ColorNavigator is needed for the maintenance of your EIZO Monitor. However, when the software and its background service – the ColorNavigator Agent – are running, they keep hold of system resources (including the USB connection) the Serendipity Client needs to connect to and control the monitor.

Follow these steps to completely shut down ColorNavigator:

Windows

  • Close/Quit the main ColorNavigator software.
  • To shut down the ColorNavigator Agent, open the Windows System Tray located at the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.

  • Right-click on the ColorNavigator (butterfly) icon, then select Quit from the menu.

macOS

  • Close/Quit the main ColorNavigator software
  • To shut down the ColorNavigator Agent, go to the Status Menus at top-right of the menu bar on the macOS desktop.

  • Click on the ColorNavigator (butterfly) icon, then select Quit from the menu.

Optional

Depending on your requirements, there is an option to prevent the ColorNavigator Agent background task from automatically starting when ColorNavigator is run and/or quit.

  • Open ColorNavigator.
  • Select Preferences > General.
  • Untick the Use ColorNavigator Agent option.

  • Quit ColorNavigator.

You may also wish to prevent ColorNavigator from starting automatically when your machine is restarted. If so, uncheck or remove the ColorNavigator application from Startup Apps in System Settings on Windows, or Login Items in System Settings on macOS.

Run Serendipity Blackmagic / Megarip / Veripress

Your system and EIZO Monitor should now be ready for use. To verify this:

  • Start Blackmagic / Megarip / Veripress.
  • Start the Serendipity Client.
  • Open the Displays application via Serendipity Client > Application menu > Displays.
  • In the Displays application, select Calibration from the function list.

This machine has two displays connected. An EIZO CG2400SV is designated as monitor 2.

  • Select the model name below Calibration in the function list.
  • In the Calibration panel, click on the Instrument drop-down menu at the bottom, then select your EIZO monitor from the list.

The EIZO CG2400SV built-in sensor / spectrophotometer is available for use.

Your EIZO display is now ready to Calibrate for Softproofing.
